Plants, mulch and soil located under the drip line of roofing without gutters can suffer from water runoff, damage, over watering, and fungus conditions. Inadequate drainage can also cause erosion problems that may harm turf and landscaping.
Degrading & Staining of Masonry & Siding
Rainwater cascading off a non-guttered or poorly-guttered roof can hit the ground and cause splash back. Within these splash backs are dirt, grass and minerals that end up on the exterior of the property as well as potentially attracting ants, roaches and termites.
Foundation Problems
Rainy weather conditions without proper gutters cause the soil around the perimeter of a foundation to become saturated with moisture it expands. A dry, hot period following heavy rain can cause the soil to contract and pull away. As this cycle repeats, the foundation can shift and crack. The expansion and contraction of the soil around your foundation is the #1 reason for slab failure.
Snow and Ice
Snow can weigh on gutters and overwhelm physical support systems; causing buckling or holes in roofs and bending or breaking gutters. During prolonged periods of precipitation and/or cold temperatures, ice can build up in a gutter to form an ice dam. These dams, which are fed by snowpack on roofs, can buckle and dislodge gutters. Ice can also creep underneath shingles to damage the roof.
